About us?

We are a group of professionals and volunteers who work with   indigenous organizations and community representatives in Ecuador to actively participate in the implementation of programs and public policies in community health and risk management in the country.  

To achieve this, our work methodology strengthens their technical and social skills to implement effective actions in each context in coordination with various public and private actors.

 

We work hand in hand with the Swiss Red Cross in Bolivia and Paraguay.

Mission

RIOS contributes to the fulfillment of the rights of excluded populations through dialogue with public authorities, coordinated operation with actors and research and national training in health, water and sanitation, gender equality, climate action and sustainable communities

Asociación RIOS, INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS, arrives in Ecuador in March 1987 to contribute to the response to the consequences of the earthquake that affected the Amazon.

  

The main objective of RIOS has been to improve the health of remote and vulnerable communities,  working under the methodology of articulation of local networks, where social organizations can raise their voice and their action as essential actors for achieve your well-being.

 

In the development of its actions, RIOS also assumes risk management as another important line of action, thanks to which communities can increase their resilience.

RIOS currently contributes to the SDGs Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, sustainable communities and climate action.  All these actions based on the participation of organizations.

 

RIOS has been working in the Ecuadorian Amazon, province of Orellana (formerly Napo) for 30 years with the Kichwa nationality.  In the province of Sucumbíos for 22 years. And in Tiwino province of Orellana, for 20 years with the Waorani nationality.

 

We have also been in Rioverde province of Esmeraldas for 15 years working with the Afro-Ecuadorian ethnic group.  We have been in Chical, Province of Carchi for 4 years with the Awá nationality.
